Catie + Kalob's wedding at Blacksheep Shelter in South Haven, Mi. was exactly how I envisioned it when they described their hopes for their day. There were deep, moody colors in emerald greens, burgundy reds, and copper tones with lots of black accents. It was every bit of the Goth, Vintage, Spooky yet Classic vibe that they told me they were hoping for.
I've had the distinct pleasure of having Kalob as one of my best friends since we were in kindergarten. When he first told me about Catie, I couldn't wait to meet her! We met for mocktails at a fun restaurant in Grand Rapids, Mi... The first thing I noticed about Catie is her bold, unique style and those gorgeous colorful tattoos artfully inking her skin. Much like her style, she is gorgeous, unique and so authentic to herself. Perfect in every way for Kalob, who shares many of those same attributes.
So it was no surprise to me to see that all of the details that Catie and Kalob curated for their wedding day matched their styles brilliantly.
From Catie's black diamond engagement ring, and the vintage shoes with roses in the heels, to Kalob's black tie with moths, and the skull bustle buttons on Catie's black wedding dress by Sophia Tolli. It was all so very Catie and Kalob.
The getting-ready spaces at Black Sheep Shelter made it easy to bop back and forth to grab getting-ready shots of the two. Plus, they have seriously awesome vintage couches!
I'm so happy these two opted for a first look. One of the best things, in my opinion, about a first look is that it actually eases your nerves. Getting the chance to see the love of your life, the person you want to say forever to, in a private, intimate setting before all of the eyes of your guests are on you can actually allow you to be 100% yourself, no pressure.
Kalob seemed to have all his nerves that were there before turning around and seeing Catie for the first time, disappear. It was great to be able to then see him be able to simply eagerly await Catie at the alter in more excitement than nerves!
A short and sweet ceremony, with a ceremonial toast as a surprise from their officiant.
Kalob had all of his party people wearing hats and pocket watches. The pocket watches each engraved with their initials, such a cool wedding party gift!
Catie's side all wore colors that just popped with the vibrant fall tones. Each gifted with a necklace that completed their outfits.
The heels were swapped for vans, and the red leather jacket came out, the reception was on!

Before leaving for the night, we had a few of the guests and wedding party help us with a little "trick shot".
As a gift, we got Catie and Kalob the masks from Beetlejuice. After having dinner at their house once, we noticed lots of Beetlejuice movie memorabilia decorating their home. It seemed so fitting for the two of them that we thought, how cute would it be to have them wear the masks during photos?! So we decided to gift the masks to them and use them during engagement photos. The masks definitely had to make an appearance on their wedding day too! Which is how we decided on setting up this fun movement shot.
Their guests and wedding party may have gotten a little dizzy, but it was SO worth it!
